Education for Public Health in New Mexico

There are many accredited Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) programs offered online and through campus based New Mexico public health schools.  Both programs offer master’s degree in public health, one of which focuses on community public health.  In the community health program, students will learn how to implement and evaluate community health programs along with planning and organizing the program.  The other program offers a minor in family and community medicine and requires a thesis and community experience to be completed for program completion.

In these public health programs, students will learn about the epidemiology, assessment and treatment of many illnesses and diseases.  They will also take classes about research and statistics, leadership and/or organizational management, and communication.  With an understanding of health and illnesses, students then learn how to collect and analyze data to help prevent and eliminate community/public health issues. The goals of these programs are to give students knowledge so that they can develop health programs, educate the public about health issues, and evaluate current programs in order to make a difference in the community and to protect the public.
