The state of New York has a lot of charm and unique characteristics to offer its residents.  Touristy New York City, with the Statue of Liberty, Madison Square Gardens, and The Empire State Building, attracts millions of people every year.  Breathtaking Niagara Falls and the majestic Adirondack Mountain Range provides nature lovers with spectacular views and outdoor fun.  During the warm summer months, individuals can enjoy the Atlantic Ocean by visiting Jones Beach State Park or Long Beach.

With all of the attractions that New York has to offer, it is easy to see why so many people live in the state of New York.  In the Big Apple and its suburbs alone there are more than 20 million people, which is projected to reach near 30 million by the year 2030.  It is no surprise that with all of the people living in New York, there is a high demand for individuals in the medical field, including Medical Technologist or Clinical Laboratory Scientist.  In the last five years alone, New York has issued nearly 15,000 new licenses in Clinical Laboratory Technology, proof that Medical Technology is a growing field.

Continuing Education and Licensure Renewal

The Clinical Laboratory Science license renewal process is really quite simple.  There is no requirement for continuing education units in the state of New York.  In order to renew a New York state license in Medical Technology, simply pay the registration fee of $170 on time every three years.

If you also hold a national certificate, the renewal procedures are not quite as easy.  First of all, you will need to obtain a total of 24 continuing education units within a two year period.  The national standards call for individuals to remain current on changes in the field of Medical Technology by attending seminars or taking classes.  Once the 24 continuing education units have been attained, you can renew your national certification through The American Society for Clinical Pathology.

In the past five years nearly 15,000 Medical Technologists or Clinical Laboratory Scientists have graduated from New York Medical Technologist certification programs and attained their initial license.  Most of these individuals were near the New York City area, where salaries are higher than around the state.  With the projected increase in population surrounding the Big Apple, it is easy to see why most of the licenses were issued there.  Where there are more people, there are more job opportunities for anyone in the medical field.  If you are considering a career as a Medical Technologist or Clinical Laboratory Scientist, you have come to the right place.  Give New York a try!
