Magnetic Resonance Imaging, or MRI, technicians make an average annual salary of $53,000, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. However, in the state of New York, radiologic technologists such as MRI techs can make up to $93,000 per year. MRI techs work in a variety of settings, including hospitals, trauma centers, acute care centers, physicians' offices, and outpatient centers. In the state of New York, possible employers of MRI techs include Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, Catskill Regional Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center in Smithtown, and Mount Sinai Medical Center in Manhattan.

Those who wish to become MRI technicians in the state of New York must first go to school to become a radiologic technologist. The school you choose should be accredited by the AART. Most programs in radiologic technology take approximately two years to finish, and you will graduate with a degree or certificate (depending upon the program you choose).
Following training in radiology, you must go to one of the online or campus based New York MRI technician schools for an additional year for MRI-specific training. The school you choose should be accredited by the AART. Although part of the training in both of these disciplines can be completed online, most programs have some sort of clinical component that must be taken in a lab.
Once you pass the examinations to become a certified radiologist and MRI technologist, you need to maintain that certification. Radiology certification renewal requires 24 hours of continuing education within 24 months. The ARRT also requires 24 hours of continuing education in MRI courses to maintain your MRI certification.
