Education for Public Health in New York

There are many online and campus based New York public health schools for those interested in a Public Health career.  Depending on what aspect of public health you are interested in, will help decide on the program you choose.  If you are looking for a degree in Public Health whether bachelor’s, master’s, or doctorate, the Council on Education for Public Health accredits these institutions (allowing for students to complete a program that prepares them for a credentialing exam) and there are 11 accredited programs in the state.  Most programs offer a Masters in Public Health (MPH) while others offer bachelor and doctorate degrees.  One of these New York programs offers all three levels of degrees, with a master’s degree in public health administration and a master’s in global public health.

The type of coursework varies depending on the degree level and the institution but they all offer classes covering the many aspects of public health.  Students will take courses in health like epidemiology, infectious disease, and health promotion.  Other courses will also be taken in research design, policy development, and communication skills.  Also since it is public health, students will be taught about cultural aspects in the field in order to adequately prepare students for real world situations.

Through campus based and online programs, aspiring Public Health Professionals in New York, Buffalo, Rochester, Yonkers and Syracuse, New York may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including the Presbyterian Hospital, Bellevue Hospital, St. Luke's Hospital, Jamaica Hospital Medical Center and Brookdale Hospital.
