New York ultrasound technician training involves not only a formal education program, but also continuing education to maintain certification.

New York Ultrasound Technician Continuing Education

The ARDMS requires continuing education and annual renewal in order to maintain certification.  For annual renewal, the cost is $60 and can be submitted online.  For continuing education, 30 units are required within 3 years.  All continuing education units, which the ARDMS refers to as continuing medical education (CME) credits, need to be submitted online so the organization can monitor what you have completed.  For information on acceptable units please see the ARDMS website

New York Ultrasound Technician Associations

Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (SDMS): This national organization works to promote the profession and provide evidence based research to its member through a journal and newsletter.  Its main goal is to advance the profession as a whole.

Society for Vascular Ultrasound: This society was formed to represent vascular technologists and all other health care providers who work with the technology in diagnosing vascular diseases.  It provides continuing education and manuals regarding technology used.  It also publishes a scientific journal, the Journal for Vascular Ultrasound.

American Institute of Ultrasound Medicine (AIUM):  The institute works with all healthcare providers who use diagnostic ultrasound. It provided continuing education and advocacy for its members and strives to ensure the quality of care as related to diagnostic ultrasound.
