North Carolina Healthcare Informatics School - NC
Having a nurse informatics degree is very necessary to work in the field. Many colleges and universities have nursing programs but there are only two North Carolina nursing informatics programs. Both schools offer a master’s of science in nursing with a concentration/area in nurse informatics. These programs help prepare students to take the ANCC credentialing exam. In addition to these two programs there are a variety of online nursing informatics programs available.
In these programs students will take courses that will teach them how to use and maintain software used in healthcare and how to create databases and apply them in a setting. These classes provide students with the tools and abilities to work with the software that is used in healthcare and shows them how to maintain and navigate them. This will adequately prepare students in the use of technology that they will use on a daily basis. Also the coursework will teach students about standards and regulations related to health care and how to apply these in everyday practice. There are many rules and regulations for healthcare, especially with a change in the national healthcare system and insurance that will occur soon, having this knowledge prior to entering the field is a necessity. These programs also offer field experience, so that student can get a better understanding of the field and have the training to start a position in nurse informatics.
