Physical Therapists are required to have a bachelor’s and a master’s degree.   The chosen fields of study for a bachelor’s degree are sciences (biology, chemistry, kinesiology, exercise science, etc).  Master’s degrees are offered only at accredited physical therapy programs and incorporate educational classes with clinical rotations at selected sites across the country. It is important to pay attention to the specific information from each school, as the admission requirements can vary as well as the duration of the program.  Some programs will guide you through from start to finish (i.e. bachelor’s to master’s) while others will not offer a master’s program and you will need to apply to another institution.  Additionally, some programs are beginning to offer doctorate (DPT) degrees in physical therapy. There are several online North Carolina physical therapy schools available.

North Carolina Physical Therapy Continuing Education

The North Carolina Board of Physical Therapy Examiners is responsible for the licensing and continuing education requirements for those currently holding a license or seeking to obtain one.  Every two years, 30 points (equivalent to 30 contact hours) are required in order to renew a license.  There are a variety of categories in which to obtain these points, including research, publication, attendance at seminars and workshops, and the mandatory jurisprudence exercises.  To submit these points, follow the instructions on the Board’s website and complete the process accordingly.  Random audits of this information are performed as well; should you be chosen for audit you will be required to submit proof of attendance and/or completion of all continuing education events.

Through campus based and online programs, aspiring Physical Therapists in Charlotte, Raleigh, Greensboro, Durham, Winston-Salem, Fayetteville, Cary, High Point and Wilmington, North Carolina may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Forsyth Medical Center, Rutherford Hospital and Pitt County Memorial Hospital.
