Recently, a study revealed that the medical billing and coding salary in North Dakota was $30,380, which was an average of about $14.61 an hour. However, some of the top professionals in this field were making more than $41,970 annually. Yet, there are currently only about 450 medical billers and coders working in North Dakota, which leaves room for a significant amount of job growth, particularly since the demand for healthcare in North Dakota is rising.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, chronic diseases are placing an extreme burden on the overall well-being of North Dakota’s residents. In fact, over the last few years, the leading causes of death in North Dakota have been heart disease, cancer, and stroke. Heart disease is the leading culprit claiming 26% of all deaths every year, and unfortunately, nearly 3,340 cases of cancer are diagnosed every year as well. Chronic diseases like these are just one of the factors placing a higher demand on healthcare professionals in North Dakota, including coders and billers.

Here is a look at the estimated salaries for medical coder and billers throughout North Dakota:

  • Bismarck: $31,760
  • Fargo: $32,220
  • Western North Dakota: $28,080
  • Central North Dakota: $32,380
