North Dakota calls for an Associate Degree concentrating on the Medical Technician (MT) path of learning.  The state certification process is voluntary, however, without a certification; you will limit your choices of jobs. The American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or the American Medical Technologist (AMT) offers the necessary path to take for the qualified graduate of a Medical Technician program.
Of all the things you can do to prepare yourself for this career, some of the most important are lab skills. Your day-to-day routine will require you to have very specific and discriminating expertise in the lab setting.
You will be handling, examining and determining the condition of specimens, blood and tissue. These duties oblige you to have dexterity, excellent mental judgment and determination of results.

Through your time in attendance at one of the online or campus based North Dakota medical technician schools you should be well prepared for the challenges the careeer will hold. This is the time to apply to the ASCP or the AMT for your exam.
