A typical curriculum in Physician Assistant schools in North Dakota takes 24 months. Some of the basic courses may be available through online or distance learning. The first year, some of the typical required courses include Introduction to the Physician Assistant role, anatomy and medical terminology, pathophysiology, investigative studies, introduction to pharmacology and EKG’s, evidence-based medicine, primary care I, II and III, current trends and issues, microbiology, biochemistry, pathology, and medical ethics.
During the second year of most Physician Assistant schools in North Dakota, students undertake clinical rotations in physicians’ offices, hospitals, and other institutions. Some of the areas covered during the rotations include family medicine, internal medicine, emergency medicine, pediatrics, geriatrics, obstetrics/gynecology, surgery, orthopedics, psychiatry and radiology.
With some programs offered by Physician Assistant schools in North Dakota, a four-week period of instruction classes are rotated with a supervised clinical phase. It is not recommended that students enrolled in the Physician Assistant program attempt full-time employment.
