Nurse Practitioner Program in New Hampshire - NH

Nurse practitioners in New Hampshire are expected to be competent, skilled, independent health care professionals who manage illness and injury, conduct physical examinations, order treatment and prescribe medications. In order to create such responsible professionals, nurse practitioner programs in New Hampshire must meet certain strict requirements. While courses may be taken online or in-person, they must consist of at least 225 hours of theoretical nursing classes, and at least 480 hours of clinical nursing experience. The clinical portion of any NP program in New Hampshire must be taken in-person, at a participating medical facility, clinic or physician’s office, under the supervision of an ARNP (Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner) or physician.

Degrees that are possible for those studying to become an ARNP in New Hampshire include  (but are not limited to) Master of Science in Family Nurse Practitioner (CFNP), Master of Science in Women’s Health Care Nurse Practitioner (WHCNP), a post-master’s certificate in Community Based NP or Women’s Health NP, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP). Other specializations that one may decide upon while studying to become an ARNP include Neonatal NP, Adult NP, Pediatric NP, Acute Care NP, and Psychiatric NP. Some programs in New Hampshire also offer Nurse Education programs for ARNPs who wish to teach others after graduation.
