Nurse Practitioner Program in West Virginia - WV
Nurse Practitioners must first become registered nurses, and as such continue to work. Online programs allow many graduate students to continue their jobs while obtaining their graduate degrees. The state of West Virginia offers online degree programs that have a mixture of classroom and distance learning. In addition to this, students have the option of enrolling full or part- time, which also helps students balance their work and academic goals. Ideally speaking, students can finish their degree in four semesters completing a total of 44 credits. This completion time is contingent upon full time enrollment.
It should be mentioned that there are a variety of distance learning opportunities that transcend state borders. However, this does not mean that students are exempt from clinical affiliations. Having said this, students would do well to decide whether they prefer a strictly online education, or if they would benefit from a blended program. Typically, local schools form partnerships with local hospitals that facilitate the clinical affiliation process. In the state of West Virginia, these hospitals would include: Charleston Area Medical Center General Hospital, Wheeling Hospital, Saint Mary's Medical Center and Ruby Memorial Hospital. Schools may also opt to allow students to select their own clinical site. Should students in West Virginia acquire all necessary permissions, they would do well to look in the following cities for potential clinical sites: Charleston, Huntington, Parkersburg and Wheeling.
