In the state of Nevada, in order to become a nurse practitioner, one must attend an advanced practice school of nursing. The nursing education program you choose must be approved by the Nevada State Board of nursing, be at least one year in length, and include both classroom and clinical training. The nurse practitioner graduate program must also include an education and training concentration in a specialized area.

There are presently three schools in the state of Nevada that are approved for graduate nursing studies. Other schools, both online and traditional brick and mortar, may receive approval from the Nevada State Board of Nursing upon request. After attending a nurse practitioner educational program, one must become certified with a national organization in his or her specialty. Then, one is free to apply for licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) in the state of Nevada. Once an individual receives a Nevada state-issued license, he or she may use the APN title following his or her name. While APNs may diagnose and prescribe, Nevada requires that the applicant fill out separate applications in order to gain permission to perform these functions of a nurse practitioner/APN.

Through campus based and online programs, aspiring nurse practitioners in Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas and Reno, Nevada may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including the Spring Valley Hospital, Sunrise Hospital, Desert Springs Hospital and Northern Nevada Medical Center.
