Find the right school for you
As a nurse in California, you will have the privilege of working at some of the largest and most respected hospitals in the United States, including Huntington Hospital, Laguna Honda Hospital, L.A. County & USC Medical Center, and Community Regional Medical Center. But how can you start a career with one of these hospitals? Well, you first need to start with your education.
The degree programs offered by nursing schools in California are second to none. They offer challenging and innovative courses that give students the tools to work in an array of nursing subsets, including practical nursing, registered nursing, and practitioner nursing.
The type of education and years of education that you will need is going to depend on which of these areas you plan to specialize in, so depending on what time of nursing career you see yourself in, you’ll be pursing either an associate degree, bachelor degree, or a master degree. Nursing schools in California have all of these programs available to students, and they can usually be completed within 2, 4, or 6 years respectively.
The first year of courses will be dedicated to basic medical studies, like:
- Nutrition
- Health and Wellness
- Fundamentals of Patient Care
- Disease Processes
Beyond the first year will be courses dedicated to your specific area of nursing, such as:
