Nursing accounts for the most medical jobs in the United States and is one of the most important medical professions. Nurses perform key tasks like treating patients, providing support to patients’ families, and educating the public about health issues. Nursing is a rewarding but demanding profession that requires a special set of skills and knowledge gained through years of education.

Most nurses have a bachelor’s degree, an associate degree, or a diploma from an approved nursing program. Advanced practice nurses, like nurse midwives and nurse practitioners, must have a master’s degree.
