Nursing Schools in District of Columbia – Washington, DC

Students interested in attending nursing schools in the District of Columbia will be excited to find several excellent programs available to them. For example, there are four private universities that offer one or more of the following degree options: Associate of Applied Science in Nursing, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Master of Science in Nursing, Doctor of Nursing Practice, and Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing, Bachelor of Science in Nursing: Advanced Placement, Bachelor of Science in Nursing: LPN to BSN, and Bachelor of Science in Nursing: RN to BSN. In addition, there is a college located in downtown Washington where nursing students can earn an Associate Degree in Registered Nursing or a Certificate in Licensed Practical Nursing. For even greater variety, some of these nursing schools also provide accelerated versions of these nursing programs. Still yet, online nursing degrees continue to be a popular education alternative.

Admission into nursing schools in the District of Columbia will vary between programs. However, most students will be required to complete prerequisite courses, provide letters of recommendation, submit to a criminal background check, possess CPR certification, undergo a drug screening, and pass a physical examination. Also, some baccalaureate programs may only allow new students that have previously completed an associate degree in nursing, or have already earned a baccalaureate degree in another non-nursing field. Likewise, most graduate degree programs will only accept students that currently hold a baccalaureate degree in nursing.
