Find the right school for you
Nursing schools in Mississippi prepare students for a career in a vital, growing industry. Typical studies teach prospective nurses how to provide comfort and basic care, give pharmaceutical treatments, promote wellness, and understand psychosocial issues. Courses for RNs have greater depth, and focus on developing the skills for professional decision making. Both courses of study include instruction in legalities, communications, and ethics. Within these perimeters, there is some variation in curriculum as well as in pacing and scheduling.
In order to practice in Mississippi, a person needs to complete an approved program. Fortunately, Mississippi accepts a number of programs from colleges, universities, and vocational schools located within the state and around the world. To be acceptable, a college or university must be accredited and deemed acceptable by the board. Schools that are accredited by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation are generally accepted. A foreign school that is not accredited may be accepted if it can be demonstrated that the demands are the same. For LPNs, Mississippi maintains a list of approved trade schools that are either located within the state or have been authorized to recruit within the borders.
