Nursing schools in Nevada provide the educational and clinical experience necessary to pass the NCLEX-RN (National Council Licensure Examination). To become licensed in Nevada, students must graduate from an accredited school of nursing, pass the NCLEX, have a U.S. Social Security number, and submit fingerprint reports.  In addition, once a license has been granted, it must be renewed every two years by submitting proof 30 hours of continuing education, completing the state-required bioterrorism course (a one-time requirement), as well as answering several eligibility questions. There is also a renewal fee.

Students can follow one of three different educational paths in order to become an RN, each involving a greater array of academic coursework. The first is through a vocational program in which a student earns a diploma and studies only topics related to nursing skills. The second is an associate’s degree through a two-year or junior college. The third option, often considered the most advantageous in terms of future career options, is to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing, typically a four-year college degree.

Nursing students will take various science courses such as biology, microbiology, chemistry, and physiology and anatomy. Many of these courses will have lab sections in which they learn to measure and combine different substances accurately and correctly. Other courses focus on patient care, medical ethics, medical terminology, and current health care issues. All nursing programs include clinical experience in a real-world setting such as a clinic or hospital under the supervision of licensed professional medical staff.
