Nursing schools and programs in South Dakota can be found throughout the state. Those interested in enrolling in a campus-based nursing program can find them located in Spearfish, Madison, Aberdeen, and Brookings. Other universities that promote nursing students are in Sioux Falls, Vermillion, Rapid City, and Mitchell. Technical institutes, community colleges, and private colleges in Sioux Falls, Aberdeen, Mitchell, Yankton, and Rapid City also provide education and training courses for aspiring nurses. Some, if not most, nursing schools in South Dakota will require that admitted students complete pre-requisite courses like human anatomy, human physiology, chemistry, microbiology, psychology, and English composition prior to entry into their program.

Once admitted, nursing programs will educate nursing students through textbook instruction, hands-on experience, case studies, internet activities, classroom simulations, supervised clinical practice, on-campus laboratory work, and participation in clinical rotation at nearby healthcare facilities.
