The Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing (DOPL) licenses nurses to work in the state. Nurses may apply for licensing as a Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) (which includes Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Nurse Specialists, and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Specialists) or Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). In addition, this licensing body approves nursing schools in Utah and lists them on their website. Currently, there are 9 practical nursing programs, 7 associate degree RN programs, 4 bachelor degree RN programs, and 4 masters of science for CRNAs programs approved, with some programs from other colleges on provisional approval.

After completing nursing education, candidates for licensure in Utah must submit an application for licensure to the DOPL. Once the DOPL has deemed you eligible, you must register for, take and pass the appropriate NCLEX examination. You should receive your exam score by mail two weeks after taking the exam. If you pass the exam, you will receive a nursing license from the DOPL within three weeks of receiving your scores.
