Nursing is a career that is currently in high demand and is expected to remain that way, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. With the current and expected shortage of nurses, the state of Vermont has taken measures to attract students to nursing schools in the state. The Vermont State Nursing Incentive Program may offer loans funded by the state for students who complete nursing school in the state and promise to work in an area where nurses are especially needed (such as rural areas).  *

The Vermont State Board of Nursing approves nursing programs found in community colleges, universities, and hospitals. In order to become a licensed nurse in the state, one’s certificate, diploma or degree must be from an approved program. Currently, the state has approved three master degree education programs, five bachelor programs, and three associate degree programs in Registered Nursing. Just one Practical Nursing program has been approved by the state. Programs from other states may receive approval by the Vermont State Board of Nursing on a case-by-case basis. For more information, contact the Vermont State Board of Nursing at National Life Bldg, North FL2, Montpelier, VT 05620-3402, or telephone (802) 828-2396.
