According to a recent Gallup Poll, for the eleventh year nursing was ranked as the most trusted among all professions. Over 80% of Americans believe that nurses have high or very high standards of honesty and ethics. In part, this is because of the thorough education and training that nursing schools in Wisconsin and all across the United States provide to nurses. Colleges throughout Wisconsin provide education for students to become Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and Registered Nurses (RNs).

Currently, 19 schools are approved by the Wisconsin Board of Nursing to offer associate degree programs; 16 colleges are approved to offer bachelor degree programs, 15 schools offer RNs with an associate degree the chance to get a BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing), and five schools offer RNs with an associate degree the opportunity to earn a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN). In addition, there are masters, Ph.D., and certificate programs for nurses to pursue graduate education. This is necessary for RNs who want to become nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, nurse educators, nurse administrators, and public health nurses. The state of Wisconsin offers financial aid to nursing students attending nonprofit colleges or universities in Wisconsin and pursuing undergraduate nursing degrees.  For more information on how to qualify, contact the State of Wisconsin Higher Educational Aids Board at http://heab.wisconsin.gov/programs.html.
