As maintained by statemaster.com, Ohio has the fourth largest number of everyday tobacco smokers and the fifth largest number of total tobacco smokers of all states in the nation. Approximately 20.8% of Ohio’s total population call themselves everyday smokers, and 25.8% of the state’s population are smokers. Because of the known link between smoking and heart disease, it only stands to reason that Ohio would be in need of cardiac sonographers. One can infer from these figures that there would be a great need for trained professionals to fill cardiac sonographer jobs in Ohio.
Echocardiographers use ultrasound instrumentation to examine the heart chambers, valves, and vessels and create images called echocardiograms. These images can help to detect and diagnose heart disease or abnormalities. Another job performed by cardiac sonographers is transesophageal echocardiography, which involves placing a tube in the patient’s esophagus to obtain ultrasound images of the heart. If you are reliable, detail-oriented, able to follow technical instructions and able to communicate with both patients and physicians, cardiac sonography may be the perfect job for you. It requires obtaining an associate degree which is usually followed by an additional year of echocardiography-specific training. Certification is not compulsory in Ohio but is recommended by many training programs as some employers fail to hire noncertified applicants.
