Ohio Medical Transcription Training Programs
Education
To become a medical transcriptionist in Ohio, students can complete programs for medical transcription training in Ohio offered by community colleges, distance learning programs and vocational schools. Ohio students may select a certificate program for one year or a more extensive associate degree program lasting two years. Typical subjects covered include anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, diagnostic procedures, treatment assessments, pharmacology, law, grammar and punctuation. The Approval Committee for Certificate Programs (ACCP) offers voluntary accreditation for Medical Transcription programs.
Examination
After students complete training programs for medical transcription in Ohio, they are typically provided with a certificate or diploma proving that they have completed the required studies for the job and is eligible for one of two levels of certification offered by the AHDI: Registered (RMT) and Certified (CMT). Any candidate is deemed “eligible” and granted permission to take either exam. While membership in AHDI is not required for those taking the exams, members do receive discounts on exam fees. Fees for the RMT exam are $200 for non-members and $120 for AHDI members. CMT exam feels are $275 for non-members and $195 for members.
Buckeye Area Chapter of the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity
Although, the Buckeye Area Chapter of the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity is located in Ohio, the chapter welcomes members from outside of Ohio. Its purpose is to help promote and support the healthcare documentation workforce, which includes but is not limited to medical transcription professionals.
