Advancement Opportunities
Much room for advancement exists for registered nurses in Ohio. Beyond entry level positions there are managing positions, shift leader positions, and more. Occupational advancement also comes with added salary as well as other benefits. Advancement may also require extra classes through Ohio RN schools, clinical time, or work hours. A registered nurse may also choose to pursue one of four advanced fields of study: clinical nursing specialist, nurse anesthetist, nurse-midwife, or nurse practitioner. All advanced fields of study require a master’s degree.
Ohio RN Continuing Education and License Renewal Requirements
The state of Ohio issues a two year nursing license. There is a renewal fee of $65 if applications are filed before July 1. The fee increases to $115 thereafter. Registered nurses in Ohio must complete 24 contact hours every two years to fulfill their continuing education requirement. At least one contact hour must be related to Chapters 4723, 1-23 of the Ohio nurse practice code and rules.
