Future dental assistants should take the following classes, as early as high school, if at all possible: Biology, Chemistry, Math, English, and Communications. Beyond these core classes, dental assistants many not have any additional education training. There are also formal post-high school certification programs that typically take 9-12 months to complete. There are a number of dental assistant schools in Oklahoma.

Dental assistants do not have to complete any sort of formalized continuing education. Those who perform expanded duties may have to complete additional requirements in order to keep their certifications. CPR certification does need to be kept current.
