The Oklahoma Board of Nursing is prepared to license students that complete long term care training in Oklahoma. The purpose of this clinical learning experience is to provide students with working experience that they can use as they begin pursuing careers within the long term care health field.

In 2008, it was estimated that 32.6% of the adult population in Oklahoma reported a mental health condition. This is an astoundingly high percentage, and as some of these adults reach the age of 65, it is probable that some type of long term healthcare may be necessary to help patients live with these mental health conditions. Long term care training in Oklahoma will give students hands-on experience working with and caring for elderly patients. By training alongside qualified registered nurses, students will become more familiar with their place in the long term care field, and essentially more qualified to assist with the health complications of the elderly.
