Medical Assistant Certification in Oklahoma – OK

While Oklahoma does not require licensing for medical assistants, certification is highly encouraged. Being certified shows a proficiency for the job as a medical assistant and will give you an advantage when searching for employment. Certification will increase your marketability, as employers tend to give preference to medical assistants will skills, experience and certification.

Once you have graduated from an Oklahoma medical assistant school, you should sit for the CMA exam through the AAMA. This exam is offered several times a year conveniently throughout the U.S. You will have to make an appointment to take the exam and pay a small enrollment fee. Depending on the type of employment you are seeking, you may opt for any of the following certifications either in lieu of or in addition to the CMA: The RMA credential as offered by the American Medical Technologists, The Podiatric Medical Assistant from the American Society of Podiatric Medical Assistants or from The Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology, 3 certifications are offered: Certified Ophthalmic Assistant, Certified Ophthalmic Technician, and Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist. Each exam has different requirements and a fee. All certifications require recertification classes to keep your skills and credentials up to date, however, the periods vary depending on which credential(s) you hold. Once you have received a passing grade on your credentials examination and have received your certificate, you're well on your way to finding a rewarding career as an Oklahoma medical assistant.
