In 2002, The Commission on Massage Therapy Accreditation (COMTA) was recognized by the US Department of Education as an accrediting body for massage therapy programs.
The US Department of Labor lists nine programs offered by massage therapy schools in Oklahoma. To be eligible for certification through NCBTMB, you must complete a minimum of 500 hours to include 125 hours combined in anatomy, physiology and kinesiology, 200 hours of massage and bodywork theory and application, 40 hours of pathology, 10 hours of business and ethics with a minimum of 6 hours of ethics, and 125 hours of additional training in a related field. The academic portion of this training can be done online or through an Oklahoma massage school. On average, half of massage therapists in Oklahoma have some college and 1/3 have a bachelor’s degree or higher.
Through campus based and online programs, aspiring Massage Therapists in Oklahoma City, Tulsa and Norman, Oklahoma may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including the Saint Francis Hospital, Oklahoma State University Medical Center, Saint Anthony Hospital and the many INTEGRIS Health Centers.
