When people think of the healthcare field and possible career opportunities in Oregon, the area of administration and management is often overlooked. It takes a certain type of personality to excel in the management of a business. Essentially, a business is what a healthcare facility is and without proper management, these much needed facilities could not keep their doors open. This is good news for individuals who wish to participate in this healthcare arena but whose marketable qualities lean more towards numbers and analysis and business communication rather than patient care. An individual with a master’s degree holds the standard credential for a healthcare administrator; however, a bachelor’s degree is adequate for some entry-level positions. The healthcare profession encompasses all types of positions and has a space for anyone interested in pursuing this type of career.
Healthcare administration jobs in Oregon vary depending on size and facility type. A small group of physicians may have one administrator to oversee the business operations of the group, while a larger group may have a top administrator with assistants to manage the specific areas of the facility. The more heavily populated areas in Oregon like Portland, Salem, Eugene and Gresham, will offer the most opportunities for employment in the state.
