In response to the nursing shortage in Oregon, the Oregon Consortium for Nursing Education (OCNE) was established in 2001 as a partnership of community colleges and public and private university schools of nursing, including colleges in cities such as Portland, Salem, Eugene and Gresham, with the goal of expanding opportunities for students to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. As a result, more students can enter this rewarding field.
