How to Become a Pharmacy Technician in Oregon
The Oregon State Board of Pharmacy requires anyone working as a pharmacy technician to hold a current license from the state. The Oregon State Board of Pharmacy oversees the licensing.
After completion of a either an online or campus-based Oregon pharmacy technician certification program through one of the many top schools in this state, you will be required to test for national certification through one of the following organizations:
The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the Institute of Certification of Pharmacy Technicians (ICPT) is required as one of the primary steps to applying for licensure in the state of Oregon.
The Institute for Certification of Pharmacy Technicians offers the ExCPT exam for certification. Exam preparation, recertification and reinstatement are all available through ICPT.

If the applicant does not have national certification or has not been previously licensed in Oregon (or the license expired prior to September 30, 2006), the person will need to apply for the Pharmacy Technician license. This is a one-year, non-renewable license. The applicant must complete one of the national certifications (PTCB or ICPT) within the first year in order to renew the Oregon license and continue working as a pharmacy technician.
The only exception is for those 18 and younger who may renew yearly until they turn 19. The application for this license can also be found at www.oregon.gov/Pharmacy/Licensing.shtml.
After the pharmacy technician license and a national certification (PTCB or ICPT) have been acquired, the applicant can apply for the Certified Oregon Pharmacy Technician license. The application can be downloaded from www.oregon.gov/Pharmacy/Licensing.shtml. Certified Oregon Pharmacy Technician licensure states that applicants must be 18 at the time of licensure and that the applicants have a GED or high school diploma.
