Schools of Public Health in Oregon

High school students can begin preparing for a career in public health by fostering strong writing, communication, research, scientific reasoning, and mathematical analysis skills. Students can also create a foundation for themselves by garnishing their English, communications, and mathematics classes with extra biology, chemistry, algebra, and calculus classes.

High school students should also begin exploring the different areas and schools of public health during their junior year. When they have found a major that suits their interests, passions, and career goals, they should look for a college or university that will provide them with the necessary education to become a public health official in Oregon.

Students can use organizations like the Association of Schools of Public Health or the Princeton Review as informational resources for graduate and undergraduate Oregon public health schools. These organizations offer additional information about different careers within the field, continuing education, and how people interested in public health careers can gain entry into the field.

There is no Board certification exam to become a general public health official; the only exams that exist for this field are in specific areas, like nursing, food inspection, psychology, disease prevention, and health education. The State may require applicants to obtain State certification or licensure after they take their Board exams, but it may not be completely necessary.

Through campus based and online programs, aspiring Public Health Professionals in Portland, Salem, Eugene and Gresham, Oregon may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including the Providence Saint Vincent Medical Center, Oregon Health & Science University Hospital, Sacred Heart Medical Center and Salem Hospital.
