Individuals who enter pediatric nursing colleges in Mississippi can earn either a bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) degree or a master of science in nursing (MSN) degree. Studies for an undergraduate degree include coursework in subjects such as biology, physiology and other sciences as well as classes in other content areas required for graduation. To support their work with young people, these students may also choose to pursue coursework in child psychology and development to strengthen their abilities to understand and to communicate with their patient population. After completing their studies, BSN graduates will need to be licensed by the Mississippi Board of Nursing, which requires successfully passing the National Council of Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses. After they are licensed, these registered nurses can also seek certification through an organization like the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB) to further validate their qualifications to work in renowned facilities such as North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo and University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.
