Find the right school for you
Pediatric nurse practitioner programs in Nebraska are found in traditional college settings and through distance education institutions online. Advanced practice nurses, or pediatric nurse practitioners, must have a graduate nursing degree like a master’s or doctorate to become licensed to practice in Nebraska. Training for pediatric nurse practitioners must include at least 2000 supervised advanced nursing practice hours under the direction of a physician. This may take place in a number of settings across Nebraska, including within medical institutions or corporations such as Blue Cross of Nebraska, Bryan LGH Medical Center, Alegent Healthcare and Lincoln Surgical Hospital. Other possible settings in which advanced practice nurses can gain clinical experience include private and group practices and outpatient care centers found in Lincoln, Omaha, Bellevue, Grand Island, and other areas of Nebraska.
Under Nebraska’s Department of Health and Human Services Scope of Practice for advanced practice nurses, 45 advanced credit hours of pharmacotherapeutics, advanced health assessment, and pathophysiology or psychopathology must be taken in a graduate training program.
