In South Dakota, all pediatric nursing professionals need to be licensed. In order to meet that requirement, you need to look at the accredited pediatric nurse practitioner programs in South Dakota available to you. On the same note, you also need to understand the specific requirements established by the South Dakota Board of Nursing, also known as the SDBN.

By specializing in the care of pediatric patients, you can work either as a registered nurse or nurse practitioner. The SDBN requires that registered nurses working in pediatric care have at least a 4-year bachelor degree in nursing studies. However, nurse practitioners specializing in pediatric care will need to complete a master’s or doctorate degree in nursing with an emphasis on pediatric care and development.

With the onset of technology and growing demand for efficiency, many colleges in South Dakota have made their nursing programs available online. This gives students more room to fit school into their schedules while still allowing them to pursue a change in career.

An education in pediatric nursing will allow you to seek employment options with some of the best recognized hospitals in South Dakota including the Sanford USD Medical Center, Rapid City Regional Hospital, Avera Saint Luke’s Hospital, and Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center.
