Medical Assistant Certification in Pennsylvania – PA

In addition to completing formal education through a Pennsylvania medical assistant school, hands on and job training experience in not only recommended but required to gain a certified medical assistant designation in Pennsylvania. Depending on the specific educational program in which you are enrolled these required clinical credits are controlled differently. Most programs require no less than 160 contact hours within a clinical training setting for those pursuing a certified medical assistant designation.
The American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) in the body in charge of accreditation for medical assistant schools in Pennsylvania. AAMA is also responsible for administering the examination for CMA designation. After completing all of your required coursework and experiential training you can then take the national certification exam.
If you pass the examination you will be notified by mail of your certification status. You are ready to find a job within the field at this point. You are likely to be able to find employment in the location where you completed clinical training so that is a great place to start. All professionals working directly with the public health in Pennsylvania are required to have a current CPR (cardio-pulmonary resuscitation) card. If you are unsure of your CPR card status or need to get certified you can contact the Pennsylvania branch of The American Heart Association.

Pennsylvania Society of Medical Assistants is an affiliate of the American Association of Medical Assistants. The organization is in place to be a local voice for the medical assisting profession. CMAs can utilize the services of this organization for the purpose of recertification and continuing education. As well the group works towards having a voice in the governance of the profession within the state of Pennsylvania.
Through campus based and online programs, aspiring Medical Assistants in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Allentown and Erie, Pennsylvania may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including the Albert Einstein Medical Center, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Saint Luke's Hospitals and Temple University Hospital.
