In regards to education, there are a number of high quality Indiana phlebotomy training programs available to residents who wish to become phlebotomists. To give an example of what some healthcare organizations deem important in order to become a phlebotomist, the American Society for Clinical Pathology requires, at the very least, that phlebotomists who do not have prior employment experience must possess four other requirements: a high school diploma or GED, 40 hours of education, 120 hours of hands-on training, and 100 instances of successfully drawing blood without assistance. The National Phlebotomy Association requires attendance in an educational program, which includes: techniques in venipuncture, an internship, and 160 additional hours in the classroom.
