For phlebotomy technicians with no prior work experience the requirements for certification through ASPT are:

  • Completion of an accredited phlebotomy training program
  • 100 successful documented venipunctures
  • 5 successful skin punctures
  • A current membership to APT

National Phlebotomy Association (NPA)    www.nationalphlebotomy.org
The NPA was established in 1981 and has certified in excess of 15,000 phlebotomists in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Barbados, Canada, and Switzerland.  The NPA offers 75 accredited teaching programs in various universities, colleges, health care training institutes, and hospitals nationwide.
 The program requirements are similar to that of the American Medical Technologies but must include the following:
The program you attend must include: 

  • Venipuncture techniques
  • A hands-on clinical practical internship
  • 160 classroom hours in addition to the clinical practical internship
