Physical Therapy Degrees, Education

What type of education is needed to become a physical therapist?

A master’s degree in physical therapy is required to practice as a physical therapist, along with passing a state licensure exam. Most physical therapy programs are now moving to a DPT (doctor of physical therapy) status and take three years to complete after Physical Therapy Educationfinishing undergraduate studies. Of the programs that still offer a master’s degree in physical therapy, many have plans to convert to DPT level.

There are very few undergraduate programs specific to physical therapy. Most undergrad students who have the goal of getting into a graduate physical therapy program choose exercise science, exercise physiology, kinesiology, or another biology related major.
