A few types of psychologists in Arizona, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ 2008 report, enjoyed the highest pay in the nation. Of the many types of psychologists—school, clinical, organizational, to name a few—all have a place in the health network in the Grand Canyon State. Of the nearly 110,000 psychologists counted by the BLS in 2009, more than 1,500 were individuals holding a psychology degree in Arizona.

There are many other areas in which a psychology degree can land you a great job helping people. Marriage or family therapist, mental health counselor, substance abuse counselor, rehab counselors and parole officer are just a few.

Continuing Education for Psychologists in Arizona

Every two year period in which you wish to renew your Arizona license you must take at least 60 hours of continuing education credits as an individual who holds a psychology degree in Arizona (if you just earned your license for the first time, credits are pro-rated). You cannot carry over hours in excess of 60 per license renewal period. In addition to taking self-study, online or classroom courses, you can attend seminars, workshops and symposia. Attending a full-day meeting of the Arizona Board of Psychological Examiners will earn you four hours. Attending a half-day meeting earns you two hours, but you can only earn up to 10 hours per licensing period from attending Board meetings.

When renewing your license, you do not have to provide proof of having taken the courses. There is, however, an application and a fee required, and the Board performs random checks to confirm that hours were earned. So it is a good idea to keep an accurate record of any CE events in which you participate.
