It is interesting to note for those considering a psychology degree in Maryland that according to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics the outlook for psychology professionals is outstanding as the profession is projected to grow at a rate of 40-50% through the year 2016. Certain fields of psychology such as clinical counseling and school psychology are expected to grow at a rate of nearly 60% through the same period. The Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene's Board of Examiners of Psychologists was established in July of 1981 as a central location of the administration of the laws of practice for psychologists in Maryland. The Board's duties include licensing and renewing the licenses of qualified psychologists, among other things.

Continuing education
All those holding a psychology degree in Maryland must be committed to continuous learning and research in the ever-changing field of mental health. Maryland requires psychologists to complete 40 contact hours of continuing education (CE) every two years previous to the time at which licenses expire. All psychologist licenses expire on March 31 every other year and the CE requirement must be completed by December 31 of the year previous to expiration.
