Pursue a Bachelor's degree in the social sciences, biology, or education. A Bachelor's degree in psychology, sociology, anthropology, education, biology, or any major that concentrates on human interaction, human anatomy, and cognitive thought will give aspiring Psychologists a strong general foundation for the courses they will take as Master's and Doctoral candidates.

Obtain two years of supervised practice in a field of interest. The North Carolina Psychology Board requires all licensure candidates to gain two years of supervised experience in a particular field of interest. The North Carolina Psychology Practice Act allows applicants to complete at least one year of this experience while they are pursuing their doctoral-level psychology degree in North Carolina and save the remaining experience for after they finish their postgraduate work. Applicants must seek experience in practices with licensed Psychologists who are also licensed as Health Service Providers, and are allowed to complete their requirements on a part-time basis.

When a student seeks supervised experience, he and his supervisor must submit a series of forms to the North Carolina Psychology Board. These forms include a supervisory contract, supervisory report form, and a supervision record form. If a candidate qualifies for reduced supervision, he must report it to the board and submit the necessary paperwork.
