The following continuing education criteria must be met for all those holding a psychology degree in Ohio:
- At least 23 hours of continuing education credits every two years is required for licensure renewal
- A minimum of 3 hours must include courses in professional conduct and ethics
- All credit hours must be acquired through a program or course approved by the State Board of Psychology, The Ohio Psychological Association, The Ohio Association of Black Psychologists, or the American Psychological Association
- In the event of continuing education needs for a licensed school psychologist or licensed psychologist with a specialty in school psychology, courses must be approved by the State Board of Education, The Ohio School Psychologists Association, or the National Association of School Psychologists
- Completion of all programs and courses must be officially documented with the Ohio Psychological Association or the State Board of Education related to the rules stated by the Board
- Each person is given a choice of programs or courses in psychology on professional conduct and ethics, as required, but still given a reasonable chance to take courses or enroll in programs relating to that person’s area of practice
- Each person must provide receipts, vouchers, or certificates necessary to prove completion for at least 2 years to document continuing education credits
- The State Board of Psychology will also approve continuing education hours for courses and programs focusing on the recognition of domestic violence, in relation to child abuse. However, these courses are not required for the continuing education hours.
