Those considering a psychology in South Dakota will find the American Psychological Association (APA) and the associated South Dakota Psychological Association (SDPA) very useful throughout their careers. Annual membership to the SDPA is $30 for students, $125 for first year associate members, $175 for two year associate members, and $225 for full members with over three years of experience. Members of the SDPA can additionally purchase advocacy support. The additional fee for this support is $5 for students, $50 for one-year members, $75 for two-year members, and $100 for full members. Both the APA and the SDPA can aid psychologists with continuing education credits. Annual conferences and meetings are also scheduled through the SDPA and are usually held in May at Cedar Shore Resort in Chamberlain/Oacoma, SD.

Continuing Education and Renewal of Licensure for Psychologists
All those holding a psychology degree in South Dakota must renew licenses every year, usually by July 1st. Renewal costs $350. Part of the renewal application must include continuing education credits. Psychologists in South Dakota must take at least six credits of continuing education every year before they can renew their licenses.
