Those considering a psychology major in Texas should know that the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists requires that all licensed psychologists in the state complete 12 hours of continuing education credits each year.  This can be accomplished through most Psychology Schools in Texas.  As of June 2004, three of those 12 credits need to be in the field of ethics, professional responsibility, or the Board’s Rules of Conduct.

Military Information for Texas Psychologists

As of August 2009, veterans who served in U.S. Armed Forces after September 11, 2001 may be able to take advantage of the new Montgomery GI Bill, according to getdegrees.com. This GI Bill covers all college tuition and fees of Psychology schools in Texas, a monthly housing stipend, and funding for college books and supplies up to $1,000 a year.  This will help cover a significant portion of the cost associated with earning a psychology degree in Texas.

To be qualified for these benefits, Armed Forces personnel considering a psychology degree in Texas need to have served at least 90 days in active duty following September 11, 2001. They must also meet one of the following conditions:

  • Still be on active duty.
  • Released or discharged from the Armed Forces because of Hardship, Condition Interfered with Duty, or Existed Prior to Service.
  • Received an honorable discharge from the Armed Forces.
  • Released with the recognition of honorable service to serve in the reserves.
  • Transferred to Fleet Reserve or Fleet Marine Corps Reserve Released following an honorable service release, or placed on the retired list or temporary disability retired list.

Personnel who served in the Armed Forces for at least 30 days following September 11, 2001 are also eligible for the new GI Bill, provided that they were discharged due to a disability that was service-related.
