With only a master’s-level psychology degree in Vermont practitioners can enter into practice.  Vermont is unique in the field of psychology in that it is the ONLY state in the country that will allow psychologists to practice with only a master’.  A doctorate is required in all other states in order to practice as a licensed psychologist.  This fact alone is appealing to those interested in psychology in Vermont because it eliminates up to three years of schooling and the cost that goes along with it.  While earning a doctorate is encouraged, it is considered continuing education rather than a requirement and ultimately will allow psychologists with the widest range of career opportunities.

Vermont Psychological Association

The Vermont Psychological Association (VPA) is the only member based psychological association in the state of Vermont.  It is a non-profit, professional organization that represents licensed psychologists in the state.  Their website claims they are “a diversified group of psychologists with the common commitment to serve others and in so doing enhance the well-being of all persons.”  The VPA also offers an array of continuing education opportunities to its members.  They serve as a vital resource to consumers through their interactive, user-friendly website where you will find a find-a-psychologist feature, a crisis hotline list, and more detailed information on what a psychologist is, what they do, and if their services would be of value to you.
