There are several psychology schools in Alaska offering doctoral degrees, both on campus and online. Alaska requires psychologists to earn doctoral degrees in a specialty, such as clinical psychology, and to complete a one-year internship upon graduation to obtain a license. This is the normal progression of training and professional introduction of all psychology schools in Alaska. The internship must include 1,500 hours of work with a minimum of one hour per week supervised.

The first daunting task is admission to a psychology doctoral program offered online or through psychology schools in Alaska. Many graduate programs offered by psychology schools in Alaska require an undergraduate and master’s degree in psychology. After these five to eight years, count on five to seven years and a required original dissertation for a doctoral degree. Alaska requires that applicants earn their doctoral degree in clinical psychology, counseling psychology, or a specialty deemed by the licensing board as equivalent to one of the former degrees. The timeframe depends upon you and the coursework you choose.

Through campus based and online programs, aspiring Psychologists in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau and Sitka, Alaska may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including Providence Alaska Medical Center, Fairbanks Memorial Hospital, Alaska Regional Hospital, and Central Peninsula Regional Hospital.
