Becoming a psychologist is a long road, involving many years of schooling and subjecting yourself to the scrutiny of not only the Arizona licensing board, but likely requiring you to undergo psychoanalysis as part of your training.
After graduating high school, attend the undergraduate college of your choice and focus on math, social sciences and other science courses. Work hard to achieve a good grade point average and maintain good relations with all your professors. Apply to an online post-graduate program or one offered by one of the psychology schools in Arizona to earn a master’s degree. You do not have attend school in Arizona to practice psychology in the state later on, although any school you attend must be accredited and approved by the American Psychological Association. Ideally, both your bachelors and masters’ degrees would be in psychology, although this is not always a requirement.
Your doctorate degree, however, must be in psychology. Earning a PhD in psychology will require you to write a dissertation, which will be based on your own research. A PsyD offered by a number of psychology schools in Arizona focuses more on counseling and clinical work.
