Hawaii Psychology Schools – HI

Licensed Psychologists must have an advanced degree earned online or through one of the psychology schools in Hawaii in at least one of the following categories:

  1. Doctoral degree in Psychology from a regionally accredited institution
  2. Doctoral degree in Educational Psychology from an accredited institution earned either online or through one of the psychology schools in Hawaii
  3. Doctoral degree from an APA-approved Clinical program earned online or through one of the psychology schools in Hawaii

Applicants must have completed minimum study in the following areas and must submit a “Training Report” form. Exception: this requirement is waived for applicants with degrees in the third category.

At least six graduate semester hours (nine quarter hours)

  • Biological bases behavior: sensation and perception, comparative psychology, neuropsychology, physiological psychology, psychopharmacology
  • Cognitive-affective bases of behavior: thinking, learning, emotion, motivation
  • Social Bases of behavior: group processes, organizational and systems theory, community psychology, social psychology
  • Individual differences: human development, personality theory, abnormal psychology
  • Psycho-diagnosis and individual assessment: personality, intellectual and behavioral assessment
  • Therapy: adult or child intervention, or both

At least three graduate semester hours (4½ quarter hours)

  • Professional, scientific ethics and standards
  • History and systems
  • Research design, methodology
  • Statistics, psychometrics
Through campus based and online programs, aspiring Psychologists in Honolulu, Kialua and Hilo, Hawaii may be able to prepare themselves for the possibility of employment in some of the largest hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including Kuakini Medical Center, The Queen's Medical Center, and Hilo Medical Center.
